Ostrog Monastery

Ostrog Monastery is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the Balkans, known around the world. This monastery was built in the 17th century and is located at 900m above sea level on the mountain Ostroška Greda, on an almost vertical cliff.
It was founded by the Herzegovinian Metropolitan Vasilije in 1650, who was proclaimed a saint and whose relics are kept in the Upper Monastery of Ostrog. This place is visited annually by several hundred thousand people from all over the world because it is believed to have healing powers.
It includes the Lower and Upper Monastery and the newly built church dedicated to the Martyr Stanko. This place is not only a Christian temple, but it attracts people of all faiths.Ostrog Monastery is the most important sanctity in Montenegro and the region where people come to find peace and salvation.
